Teach Your Smile About Dental Floss

Posted .

In order to ensure your smile can effectively last for as long as you do, it is important to keep it strong and safe by removing any risks associated with dental erosion and other forms of dental damage. This includes keeping your mouth clean by rinsing it out every single day. Ideally, you should be brushing your teeth twice a day and flossing between your teeth every day as well with a highly effective and sturdy dental floss.

To keep your smile safe from oral accidents and injuries that can arise, it is important to make sure you are using effective oral health care. Not only does this keep your teeth safe, but it keeps your mouth clean. However, brushing alone cannot effectively clean all areas of your mouth. An interdental tool such as dental floss or a water flosser will be needed to clean between teeth. If you struggle using traditional flossing thread, try using a water flosser which uses a beam of water to rinse out debris stuck between teeth.

Once you have selected your ideal flossing apparatus, try to focus on cleaning between your teeth for 2 to 3 minutes each session by using slow, gentle strokes. It’s important to go slowly to avoid dental abrasion and gum lacerations. Furthermore, make sure your cleaning between every single tooth and don’t skip the back row. If you are using a threaded flosser, try to use a strand that is roughly 18“ in length, so you can clean between each individual tooth without using the same section more than once. This will help prevent recontamination. Once you have effectively cleaned between all teeth, throw out the strand and use a new one the next day.
